Why families come back to Portuguese
Many families have Portuguese in the background of their lives: a grandparent on the phone, songs, food, visits. Turning that into confident everyday speech is a different task, and it usually has to fit around work and family routines.
FalaZay is an iPhone app for learning Brazilian Portuguese through listening, pronunciation, memory and guided conversation. You choose a starting level, your interests and a practice rhythm, and the app builds a personal learning path around those choices.
Short sessions that fit a busy household
The practice games run in short rounds of eight cards. Meaning Match connects phrases with their meaning, Phrase Builder asks you to put word tiles in order, and Find the Word asks you to recall a missing word using a keyboard with Portuguese accents.
There are no heart penalties and no forced timers, so a round can be picked up and put down when the day interrupts you. Spaced review brings earlier phrases back so they stick, and daily quests, XP and streaks help you keep a habit going.
Hear it, then say it
Lessons include short dialogues, with English translations available on demand and generated speech where available. The Pronunciation Lab focuses on challenging Brazilian sounds, which is useful if you are learning to say words the way they are said in Brazil.
If you turn on AI features, you also get speaking feedback on individual words and sounds. Zay guides you through the daily routine.
Conversation practice for family life
Bia is an AI conversation tutor for everyday situations, including family, travel, work and life in Brazil. You can use it to rehearse the kind of conversations you actually want to have with relatives. AI features have daily usage allowances, and non-AI practice alternatives are available.
A clear choice about AI and data
Registration is optional before purchase. Before any AI processing, FalaZay explains what data goes to Microsoft Azure Speech, Anthropic Claude and OpenAI, and you can decline AI. Lessons require FalaZay Pro either way. The App Store lists FalaZay as age 4+. See the privacy policy for details.
Getting started
The download is free for iPhone (iOS 15.0 or later). Lessons require FalaZay Pro, a weekly or annual auto-renewable subscription. The weekly plan includes a 3-day free trial when the App Store offer includes one. The price is shown in the app. If you are learning because of a partner or in-laws instead, see FalaZay for partners and in-laws; if a move is on the horizon, see moving to Brazil.
